Unknown Entity is headed to Asheville

UPDATE October 8th:

We have had some issues with U-Haul cancelling our reservation. I had a 26ft truck reserved for 10-15 Oct (1 buffer day in case of a delay). 2 days later, I received a phone call from a regional rep. They accused me of using it for storage and said they would only rent it to me for 48 hours. I said that I am driving to a location 700 miles away. They said that's not what the trucks are for and told me to get one of their pods. I said this would not fit the task at hand and want to use the truck not a pod. The agent then responded well if you return it later than 48 hours there will be an “excess of fees and you won't be able to rent from U-Haul ever again.”

This is the reason you have a PACE plan. We immediately enacted our alternative plan utilizing another company. We are set up and still on track to leave this weekend.

Now on to hurricane Milton....

Our roaster and fulfillment location is in Tampa. Ty was already planning on coming up to help with the Helene supply mission. THIS HAS NOT CHANGED. We will continue to monitor the storm, the damage, and the potential impacts as they arise. As of now, we are still on track to start driving on the 12th.

Original (Oct 2nd)

Asheville holds a special place in my heart. We have family there, my son spends every summer there with his Gran and Paw, its also where my wife calls home. Seeing the devastation was heartbreaking. Seeing the lack of response was infuriating. From the governor delaying the request for aid to the Lake Luer Fire Dept threatening a pilot for pulling people out. There has been a calling for aid from the guys actually putting in the work on the ground.

Combined with the current situation in the ports we figured there must be something we can do. We have started coordinating drop off and pick up sites to start a humanitarian aid drive in upstate NY, where I am currently stationed. Being active duty makes it hard to get involved but my commander has been nothing but supportive. I plan on leaving somewhere around the 12th of October to head to North Carolina. I have been working with military and search and rescue friends to determine drop off points to make sure the aid actually gets to those that need it most in the mountain towns that have been completely cut off from the world.

Keep following our socials to stay up to date on the situation, new supply lists, and organizations to follow and support.

Donation Links:

Consider donating here to help offset logistics costs (paypal).

Or here (Venmo)

Any funds collected beyond logistics costs will go toward purchasing more supplies for those on the ground.
